How 'bout them Vikings! Here's to Viking Alum accomplishments!
 Hannah Bennett - Class of 2009Everyone knows who Hannah Bennett is. She's the girl who was the BIIF's Most Valuable Player in Water Polo and Hilo High's Homecoming Queen. Who could forget?
What you may not know is that Hannah has gone on to huge athletic success in California! The story goes like this...in planning for graduation from Hilo High, Hannah was hoping to go to UH Manoa and be a student athlete in their water polo program. While the coach was very interested, there was a problem with admissions due to here records from Fiji (where she had been a high school freshman). Anyway, she didn't get in. I say that was a mistake!
But did Hannah cry about it? No! Without missing a beat, she set her sights on a top junior college water polo program in Southern Cal at Golden West College. This was a highly competetive program which only became stronger when they hired a new coach who just happened to have coached the U.S. National team. Add Hannah to that and who could stop them. Well, the answer is nobody!
Golden West took the California State Junior College Championship with the help of two goals scored by Hannah in the final game! Does it get any better than that? Yes!
The topper is that Hannah is doing great in her classes (Remember: Student first, Athlete second!) and she has been rooming with her fellow teammates. I believe she said something like, "this has worked out better than I had ever dreamed!"
 So here's to Hannah Bennett! She rolled with punches and came out on top! I'm sure we'll be hearing more from her in the years to come! And might just be seeing her on the UHM team yet (If they know what's good for them!)
